Sta. Maria couples tie knot during CARD MBA’s mass wedding

On March 6, 2020, ten couples from Sta. Maria, Laguna said their vows during the mass wedding hosted by CARD Mutual Benefit Association (CARD MBA) and facilitated by Municipality Mayor Atty. Ma. Rocelle Carolino.

CARD MBA hosts mass weddings since 1999 to encourage microfinance clients with live-in partners to legalize their union through marriage so that they can get the full benefits of microinsurance.

According to CARD MBA Chief Executive Officer May S. Dawat, “One of our core values is family spirit. This means that we cannot leave anyone behind. This is why we encourage marriage among our microfinance clients with live-in partners so that they too can be covered by our microinsurance products.” A total of 1,357 couples all over the country have benefited from the institution’s mass weddings.

The recently concluded mass wedding in Sta. Maria is one of the programs during the Kaunlaran Caravan, a quarterly activity of CARD MRI that brings community development programs to different provinces in the Philippines. The caravan also offers free medical, optical, dental and pre-natal check-ups; financial literacy activity for kids; and livelihood trainings, among others.

As the microinsurance arm of CARD MRI, CARD MBA provides life insurance products to socioeconomically challenged communities. As of January 2020, it has insured a total of 20, 588, 648 individuals nationwide.
