Typhoon Glenda Disaster Response Efforts

The CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), the country’s biggest microfinance and community development institution, immediately provided relief to its affected members in Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Cavite, Metro Manila, Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Masbate, Palawan, Negros Oriental, Bataan, and Bulacan. CARD MRI is responsive to every need of the affected families under its wings through fast payment of claims, urgent provision of relief goods, and a reliable communication system among its staff and members.

CaMIA PAID Plan Validation

Lucena City — CAMIA staff validates CARD client’s house for the re-house claims.

CARD MRI staff deployed in the affected areas are tasked to visit the members and clients of the different financial institutions to enable fast validation of the affected clients’ claims for re-house. Six days after the typhoon hit the country, 6,506 policy holders of the CaMIA PAID Plan insurance clients have been validated and PhP 14.3 M claims amount have already been paid . CARD MBA has also recorded and paid immediately two members’ claim for Life Insurance.

San Pablo City—Volunteers repacking the goods to be allocated to thousands of CARD MRI clients struck by typhoon Glenda.

People affected by the typhoon still volunteer to repack the goods to give aid to those who are stricken by the calamity. Repacking the goods from CARD BDSFI partner, LCC are members of Tabaco, Albay and CARD MRI staff.  While volunteers at the repacking station in San Pablo are from MSC Institute of Technology, UAP and staff of Architect Barte, staff of Nails.Glow spa, APEX Club San Pablo, seminarians from San Pablo, Army reserve and even private individuals of San Pablo. Moreover, companies like the San Pablo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SPCCI) and Universal Robina Corporations/Matrix Corporation donated some pre-packed goods. CARD MRI’s focus as of the moment are on the validation of claims and repacking and distribution of the CDRAP goods for the allocation to its clients. Re-packing stations are also placed in strategic locations and per unit and provincial offices in the affected areas.

Furthermore, COMDEV and research staffs visited clients affected by the typhoon to gather stories. CARD MRI clients are  thankful to CARD for their immediate response to affected members. “Malaking tulong sa pamilya ko ang CARD. Malaki ang pasasalamat ko talaga sa kanila,” uttered by Evelyn Villanueva, utility of CARD Provincial Office-Lucena and a CARD member, whose house was totally devastated by the typhoon leaving nothing to live with.

Solar energy

Solar lights are being utilized in the different offices of CARD MRI located in affected areas to facilitate continuous service to the members and clients. Through this solar energy, clients, members, and staff are able to charge their mobile phones and other gadgets for continuous communication. ATM machines found in the CARD Bank, Inc. branches are also open for use to members and non-members even a day after the typhoon.

CARD MRI will continue to provide its fast, reliable, and genuine service to the poor especially in these trying times.
