Typhoon Yolanda Disaster Relief Efforts

How you can be a part of our efforts

As a social development institution with operations across the Philippines, CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions, through its lead mother-foundation, the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc. wants to update you on our existing efforts to assist our clients who were badly affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The provinces of Samar and Leyte have been badly hit where CARD MRI has a total of 290,000 clients. As of December 17, 2013, a total of 179,388 clients and 156 staff were reported to have been affected where 326 were recorded dead and 170 were reported missing.

We are in the wrapping up phase of our relief operations and our rehabilitations efforts are now underway. As part of the rehabilitation, last week, CARD has started providing special livelihood and housing calamity loans for the affected areas. These are loans at subsidized interest rates and with ample grace periods. With CARD’s own funds and the PhP 400 million-peso fund that CARD is hoping to raise, CARD will be able to address the rehabilitation efforts needed by the affected clients

The affected branches are back in normal operations. We would also like to further mention that CARD Bank in Tacloban has opened and has started serving clients again as of December 2, 2013, 24 days after the typhoon.
