Over 300 people attended the Sinemaya Cinema Tour at SM City Baguio Cinema to watch the inspiring films produced by the nine finalists of the 2022 Sinemaya Film Festival.

Sinemaya, the first community film fest in the Philippine microfinance industry initiated by CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), continues its cinema tour in Baguio City on July 1, 2023.

Microfinance clients, staff, and stakeholders watched the nine short films produced by microfinance clients sharing their stories on how their families and communities are interconnected.

CARD MRI, a group of 23 institutions that aim to empower Filipino families, envisions providing its clients with a platform to share their stories of inspiration and success. “SineMaya is the realization of this aspiration where ordinary Filipinos can now share their stories of struggles and perseverance to provide a decent life for their family. With this, we are creating an avenue for them to be heard and understood,” said Dr. Alip.

Two finalists from the 2022 SineMaya Film Fest also attended the film showing for the viewers to draw inspiration from. These short films are the Community Development Awardee for Agriculture Na’ng Nagkatagpo, Nag-Sandigang Mangarap, a movie produced by CARD, Inc. (A Microfinance NGO) SK Ankileng from the Mountain Province, and the People’s Choice Awardee Tinig ng Tahimik, a film directed by CARD, Inc. (A Microfinance NGO) SK Baclig 2 Center from Ilocos Sur.

“We have seen that the skills and talents of our clients have no boundaries. Their stories need to be shared to build dreams and inspire many,” Dr. Alip added.

More stories that will inspire

The 2023 Sinemaya community film festival is now open to all microfinance institutions in the country. With the participation of various microfinance institutions, more microfinance clients will discover untapped possibilities for themselves. The community film festival seeks to bring out the undiscovered potentials of microfinance clients in creativity and artistry while bringing inspiration to others through their experiences.
